Relay For Life - Huntly 27/28 June 2009

Relay For Life is a unique community based, volunteer led, income and awareness raising event, developed and Licensed to Cancer Research UK by the American Cancer Society (ACS). It gives communities the chance to celebrate the lives of those touched by cancer and to raise money to bring hope for the future.

Relay was started by an ACS volunteer in 1985. Dr Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon, decided to raise money for the ACS in his hometown of Tacoma in Washington State. He did this by walking around his local athletics track for 24 hours. On the day friends and family came to support him! Some paid $25 to walk 30 minutes with him, other brought food, others supported him through the night when the going got tough! He raised $27,000. The following year he formed a Committee and recruited 19 teams to take turns walking round the track for 24 hours. $33,000 was raised and Relay For Life was born! The rest is history!

Welcome to the FIRST Relay For Life in Huntly, a friendly community at the heart of Aberdeenshire, which borders with the Moray/Highland Council!
Join us for a 24-hour day of fun in support for Cancer Research UK.

Teams of 8-15 people will camp around the track for 24 hours, making sure that at least 1 team member is on the track. Live music, kilts, entertainment, games, stalls and catering vans will make this event unforgettable!

Take up the challenge! Come and support this health-promoting event. Meet local people, make new friends, and flavour North-East produce for a few hours or 24 if you wish to.

Official launch of the event at
The Gordon Arms Hotel (The Square, Huntly) on 23 February 2009 (7-8.30pm)
