Huntly Development Trust - projects update

Feasibility studies are underway for four key HDT projects involved with Huntly's retail and tourism sectors.

Huntly Development Trust (HDT) has commissioned a consultant team led by Douglas Wheeler Associates Ltd (DWA) to develop and assess the feasibility of four projects that could have potential to deliver significant economic and community benefits for Huntly and offer income-generating opportunities for HDT.  The objective of the studies is find out more so that HDT and other stakeholders can take an informed decision on how best to take the projects forward, if at all.  The four projects are:
″    Creation of a Huntly Hub in the historic town centre;
″    Development of the Huntly retail sector;
″    Provision of flexible workshop space for local trades businesses and
″    Promoting a regional cycling centre.

The DWA proposals providing background and the provisional programme for the feasibility studies can be viewed as PDF documents by clicking on the links below:

The programme shows that feasibility work on the four projects will progress in parallel over three months from early December. The first start up meeting has already been held with HDT and initial consultations with other community groups and members are underway.  On street interviews in the town centre and telephone interviews will be carried out before Christmas and interviews with businesses will be undertaken early in the New Year. Workshops will also be held with agencies, local businesses, community group representatives and residents later in January.

Douglas Wheeler worked on the initial Huntly strategy and five year action plan that was launched in 2005 prior to HDT being established.  Doug said, 'I am very pleased to have the opportunity to assist HDT, to revisit the town, renew acquaintances and to assess just how Huntly has fared over what has been a very challenging time for distinctive small towns like Huntly.'

Donald Boyd, Development Manager of HDT said, 'HDT was formed to take undertake projects for the benefit of the community.  These four projects were identified by local people as providing different ways to help develop the town's economy, improve the environment and provide significant community benefits. We really need to know how best to take the projects forward so I'm looking forward to seeing the conclusions from the feasibility studies.  HDT are very keen to have a high level of community and business involvement in the feasibilities and therefore I would encourage anyone who is interested to get involved.'

This web page will be regularly updated as the feasibility work progresses.  If you have any comments, queries or questions contact Donald Boyd at HDT on 01466 799416 or hdt@huntly.net
