Shooting

Game

Strathbogie teems with edible wildlife. Game species include pheasants and partridges, snipe, woodcock and hare. Roe deer stalking is particularly good and vermin (pigeons and rabbits) can be shot all year round. Several estates (Aswanley pictured right) and agencies arrange game and clay pigeon shooting, which has to be booked in advance. A formal shoot will cost £24- £30 per bird. Farmers often welcome offers to clear rabbits or scare/shoot pigeons off. Permission is needed and a gun licence is required for a shotgun or rifle. A Gordon Schools team won the Scottish Clay Shooting championship in 2006.
